Time for a fresh start

One of the resolutions this year, the one which seemed the easiest was to get back to writing... Apparently, it still took 3 months to get started. There's a small voice in my mind that says moving the mind from writing emails - where no one bothers to correct grammar, punctuations and articulation beyond the bare minimum TO a post on a blog would actually help some of those grey cells remain alive.

The more I read what the past me had to write, the more I despair in how narrow my thoughts and thought process are becoming. Something needs to change - something that would enable a creative outlow, something that I would be proud of beyond the 4 walls at home and the many at work.

Atleast, in the true sense of the word... these are the rhetorics of a cribster !

I'm yours

Just can't seem to get this one out of my head and heart these days :-)

Well you done done me and you bet I felt it
I tried to be chill but you're so hot that I melted
I fell right through the cracks
and now I'm trying to get back
Before the cool done run out
I'll be giving it my bestest
Nothing's going to stop me but divine intervention
I reckon it's again my turn to win some or learn some

I won't hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait, I'm yours

Well open up your mind and see like me
Open up your plans and damn you're free
Look into your heart and you'll find love love love love
Listen to the music of the moment people dance and sing
We're just one big family
And It's our God-forsaken right to be loved love loved love loved

So I won't hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait I'm sure
There's no need to complicate
Our time is short
This is our fate, I'm yours

Scooch closer dear
and i will nibble your ear

I've been spending way too long checking my tongue in the mirror
And bending over backwards just to try to see it clearer
My breath fogged up the glass
And so I drew a new face and laughed
I guess what i be saying is there ain't no better reason
To rid yourself of vanity and just go with the seasons
It's what we aim to do
Our name is our virtue

I won't hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait I'm sure
There's no need to complicate
Our time is short
this is our fate, I'm yours

Well no no, well open up your mind and see like me
Open up your plans and damn you're free
Look into your heart and you'll find the sky is yours
Listen to the music of the moment come and dance with me
A lá one big family (2nd time: A lá happy family; 3rd time: A lá peaceful melody)
It's your God-forsaken right to be loved love love love

I won't hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait, I'm sure
There's no need to complicate
Our time is short
This is our fate, I'm yours

No please, don't complicate
Our time is short
This is our fate, I'm yours

No please, don't hesitate
no more, no more
It cannot wait
The sky is your's!

Ahmedbad -> Paris -> Ahmedabad

Adding to a week long struggle between Mumbai, Gurgaon & Ahmedabad is a 2 day trip to Paris. Proving my point about an absolutely impulsive life is the fact that I got a job offer around 4:30 pm yesterday ... planned a trip in 30 min ... went shopping and borrowing stuff all across campus till 1 am ... started packing at 3 am ... and reached the airport at 7 am.

At Ahmedabad airport right now, I'm awaiting the huge line of gujjus ahead of me to shorten down substantially, don;t care even if I'm the last guy to board :-/ ... Even with a working wi-fi connection, Ahmedabad will still be Ahmedabad... For the past 10 min, Emirates hostesses are shouting out announcements for a kirtiben shah and a shardaben patel ...

News - how credible are they?

Just opened yesterday's newspaper to see how "IIMA's placements" have panned out [And I'm part of the placement committee :P]. Nothing like a media angle to any phenomenon.

To elucidate my point, here's the scene - Only around 3 - 5 banks visited campus ... as against thrice the number of consulting firms. And this is the kind of picture the outside world gets to see:

Brings me to wonder - any news article CANNOT be taken as truth with closed eyes. So, if the media isn't playing the role of archiving human history in an unbiased manner, who is? Humanity needs an unbiased and accurate custodian - maybe this could be a business idea ... to establish a stream of news / data that cannot be disputed. And with the emergence of hip, constantly buzzing social media I don't think it's a far away dream.

Of interviews and cults...

Placements time is here again, and although I've been *part* of four placement processes at IIM-A now, things are way too different when you are in the process rather than running it. For e.g., as a student rep you are aiming to get 300 commodities placed into 100 firms in the best way possible. And as an applicant you are 1 unique person looking for that 1 unique firm that can be your springboard to a splendid career. It is and has been very difficult to change modes from one mindset to the other - but I think I have the hang of it now!

On a lighter note, found this utterly hilarious video on a colleague's status message. Has brought a smile to many faces on campus; hope it does here too :)

Appled

Lost the competition & the sexy N97 yesterday ... even after the intensive night out... :(

Today was a new day (yesterday was actually, it's 2:40 am!) - won an iPod nano 8 GB today ... this was all due to an impulsive entry to a competition on campus

One more impulsive, quick entry to a contest 2 months back got me a Paris trip in Feb :-)

Impulsiveness is hence my forte. Note to self, trust your guts.

The woes of technology

Worked on a pseud presentation all night - flash, awesome intro music, automatic slides ... basically the works. Goofed up the presentation on multiple levels:

  • Only team to be dressed in suits... even the presenters were dressed casually :-)
  • Carried the ppt on the pendrive - forgot all supporting sounds, videos etc..
  • Summarized calculations on a slide ... left the comprehensive original calculations on a worksheet on another team member's comp.
At stake are sexy N97 minis :-( ... Let's see how the results turn out.

Late night tubing

Nearing the end of my studies at IIM Ahmedabad, somehow I find that sleep eludes me for long long hours in the night as I get geared for the upcoming placements season. Hope that good amount of prep helps me get that one chance at a dream career ... in the meanwhile, I take a break with the following video :-)

ZZZZZZZ

It's been way too long since I've written anything. Maybe my blog feels like an abandoned one, but I hope to back soon .. with many many things to cover:

  • Shodh Yatra - One week spent in Mizoram, without much of manmade luxuries to comfort me ... made some great friends, kept some strangers the way they were, introspected some, clicked a lot of photos, did a lot of toiling and finally blew up whole loads of money on plane tickets - Was it all worth it?
  • Grudges and keeping them - I've been holding a lot of em lately and don't know how to deal with em ... Somehow I can't seem to keep the friends I make, no matter how well we start off - I need a course on relationship management?
  • Umpteen thoughts about an MBA right after grad school and maybe a premature end to my tryst with education - was it really the right way given the blurry road ahead?
  • Hypocrisy - is there ever escaping it?
  • A saying I saw/heard somewhere - "Keep the things that don't make you happy away!" ... how my efforts to practice this have been going in vain :P
Cheers

234

Is the number of days that have passed ...Condemnations flew, people swore, dear ones cried and the world watched. Today, some memories seem to have forgotten - politics, economics, budgets and the rains seem to have taken top priority. A look at the following videos brought back all the hatred, fear and helplessness.

Do not watch the videos if you are weak at heart (it takes courage to acknowledge the same)

I've been a bad boy

In a completely non-perverse sense .... I might have managed to piss off someone real close to me - thanks to a late night "jump the gun" email, which I've already tried my best to get rectified... Hope things get better soon :|

Writer's block

How ironic is it that in the extremely busy first year I found time to start a blog and keep it reasonably updated... but now, in the second year - when classes begin at 11 am, end at 1 (on some days), the number of blog entries is negligible...

And it's not like I am subjecting my brain to some other extremely strenous activity either :|

So, start tomorrow, I'll try to post snippets from newspapers and my views on them ... hoping to get out of this writer's block :|

For the first time in life...

I am thoroughly enjoying classrooms and the learning experience ... Wish India had more of such educators ...

Tomorrow july begins, and so does a new routine of my life which has good amount of time allocated to health, study, work, liesure and general catching up with friends ... Let's see how long I can keep this up :-)

Amusing images of India

As extracted from the US department of state's website:

On traffic in India:

On Indian roads, the safest driving policy is to always assume that other drivers will not respond to a traffic situation in the same way you would in the United States. On Indian roads, might makes right, and buses and trucks epitomize this fact. For instance, buses and trucks often run red lights and merge directly into traffic at yield points and traffic circles. Cars, auto-rickshaws, bicycles and pedestrians behave only slightly more cautiously. Frequent use of one's horn or flashing of headlights to announce one's presence is both customary and wise.

On the few divided highways one can expect to meet local transportation traveling in the wrong direction, often without lights. Heavy traffic is the norm and includes (but is not limited to) overloaded trucks and buses, scooters, pedestrians, bullock and camel carts, horse or elephant riders en route to weddings, bicycles, and free-roaming livestock. Traffic in India moves on the left. It is important to be alert while crossing streets and intersections, especially after dark as traffic is coming in the "wrong" direction (i.e., from the left).

If a driver hits a pedestrian or a cow, the vehicle and its occupants are at risk of being attacked by passersby.

Back with a bang

Back to amdavad ... second year has begun and I'm enjoying every bit of it (also getting bored with the free time on a sunday morning)

Here's something I found cool ... and it doesn't seem too far away in the future -

Sunday @ Workplace - DESERTED

Feels good to know that one doesn't need to come to office on sunday ... feels bad to be in this deserted place on a Sunday ... Hisaab fittus (Yeah ... I've been getting back in touch with childhood bombay lingo which was lost so long ago :P)

And hence begins the trend of microblogging @ this blog !

Last weekend at Internship

And I'm still at work :-( ... Furiously struggling with Powerpoint and Excel ... Let's see how well / badly the final presentation goes...

I've been powerpointing...

And now it's time to make PPTs... Contrary to what I've learnt in Business School (And I even scored an A in that course :P) powerpoint presentations are not memory aids, but stand alone documents which don't contain just bullet points, but fully understandable sentences (read this again and you'll get what I mean) !

So much for an internship being an application of my learnings in PGP-1 :)

So ... Internship ends soon, I've learnt a lot, and more than that learnt how little I know ... Can't wait to chill in the small heaven of a break between the end of internship and start of college ...
